The Power of the Morning Routine
We’ve all been there before – hitting the snooze button, reaching for our phones and getting sucked in to social media/emails first thing, rushing to get out the door, only to find ourselves feeling behind and often struggling to keep it together throughout the day.
Ever since I’ve incorporated a more mindful morning routine into my life, I’ve seen my productivity and happiness increase tremendously.
In the video below, I share my morning routine, which includes warm lemon water followed by coffee, meditation, a bit of journaling, some light exercise to get the blood flowing, and a healthy breakfast.
It may seem like I spend a lot of time in the morning doing all of this, and it’s true. But, spending the 10 or 15 minutes meditating and another 5 or 10 minutes journaling to clear my head ends up saving me hours in the long run. Why? Because when I’m more centered and balanced throughout the day, I’m able to think more clearly and get way more done.
I believe we can all become morning people if we are simply willing to create some new habits.
It may take getting used to waking up a bit earlier, but I promise it’s worth it. I’ll admit, I’m a naturally early riser… so I tend to wake up without an alarm. If you do use one, a suggestion you may be familiar with is to put it somewhere out of reach so you have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. I recently learned that the snooze button does more harm than good––even though those last few minutes of sleep seem to feel good, studies have shown that using the snooze button actually makes you more groggy and tired throughout the day.
